Christmas Traditions

Standard

I saw this on another blog (can’t remember what one) and thought it looked fun, so here goes….

Does Santa wrap the gifts or just sit them under the tree?
Santa wraps at our house, he has the best paper.

Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White lights on our tree, although I grew up with colored lights.

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

The baked corn dish my grandma would make.

Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Watching the previous years Christmas home movie. I still remember the smell of that old film

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yep, usually just one each.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I like to do a new theme every year, some I repeat some I don’t.

Snow!  Love it or Dread it?
I love the first snow, but it gets old as the year goes on.

What is your favorite holiday dessert?
I am not much of a dessert person, but when I was young my grandma would make Rosette’s, I LOVED them! I have tried to make them, but not the same as she made

What is your favorite Christmas Song? Santa Baby, by Eartha Kitt

Candy Canes!  Yum or Yuck?
YUM!  Especially the fruit flavored ones.

Favorite Christmas Tradition Growing Up: Every year us kids would get new pj’s for Christmas, they would be the first gift we could open up, we would then go upstairs, put them on and come back down the stairs all sleepy-eyed as my dad could make a movie of us “waking up and coming down stairs” in our new pj’s for Christmas morning.

Least Favorite Christmas Tradition Growing Up:
Hum, that is tough for me. I can not think of anything but I am sure there were lots of things I complained about while having to do them.

Breakfast or Presents First?
Breakfast? What is breakfast?

washing dishes used to be so easy…

Standard

I had accumulated a ton of dirty dishes well maybe not a ton but way to many. This is a story about how things went in my lil house last night when I washed them.

Me: started water added dishes to sink

Mason: stood at gate and babbled

Me: washing dishes and talking to mason

Mason: stood at gate and cried

Me: washing dishes and singing to mason

Mason: finally gave up crying (i think he just wanted me to quit singing) and sat down on the floor by the gate

Me: washing dishes, looking at mason every now and then

Mason: unrolling a roll of bubble wrap

Me: re-rolling roll of bubble wrap, tear off a small piece for mason to play with

Mason: sitting quiet by gate

Me: washing dishes, looking at mason every now and then

Mason: playing with my unplugged fabric iron, ironing the floor (it was pretty cute)

Me: washing dishes, looking at mason every now and then

Mason: playing in the water that spilled out of the iron

Me: cleaned up the water & mason, gave him a towel to play with, washing dishes, looking at mason every now and then

Mason: crawled into living room to where i could not see him

Me: talking to mason to get him to show his face

Mason: crawled over to bookshelf and cleared off an entire shelf

Me: says errrrrr!!!! washing dishes used to be so easy!

Mason: watches his mommy clean up after him again

Me: gives up on cleaning kitchen again

Mason: happy he has someone to play with

Me: happy mason is going to my in-laws Monday evening so I can clean

i lied today…

Standard

today a friend of my husband  sent me a text asking me how me and the lil guy are doing. i lied, i told him we are good.

yes we have great friends and family, food, warmth and a roof over our head. but i miss my husband and he is missing so much fun and cute stuff that the lil one is doing. most of the time i am good, i know he is doing what he loves (being a solider) but as the Christmas gets closer and i see all that he is missing here on the home front i feel bad. bad for him, bad for his sons our sons, bad for his parents, his sister and for me too.

don’t get me wrong i totally support him and what he is doing, just need to get past all these “important days” then i think time will fly and spring will be here and he will be home again.

but next time i get asked “how are you guys doing” i’m not gonna lie…

Thanksgiving

Standard

per Wikipedia~

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Thanksgiving is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Thanksgiving in Canada falls on the same day as Columbus Day in the United States.

But for the better part of the past decade Thanksgiving has been celebrated in other country’s besides the US and Canada.

Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

I am thankful for all the men and women that have served our country and spent their holidays away from their family.

I am thankful for my family especially my husband as he celebrates this holiday a world away….

So you see, Thanksgiving is not celebrated in the US and Canada.

he turns 1 ….

My baby, Mason, is turning one years old on Sunday. It is gonna be a though day, since his dad will not be there. It will be hard on Dad too I’m sure. Tonight I am thinking back to a year ago to the events leading up to Mason’s delivery, wishing my husband was by my side. But we will take lots of pic’s and videos to send to Daddy I finished Mason’s birthday gifts. I made him a quilt, sorry I do not remember where I got the fabric or the quilt pattern. The doll is from the book by Wee Wonderfuls.

I used an old onsie that did not fit Mason to make the doll’s cloths
